BLACK MALE MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE (BMMHI)

The Black Male Mental Health Initiative (BMMHI) has two main purposes: the first aims to provide resources for Black men via a directory of mental health services and BIPOC providers via the ULEM website; the second seeks to recruit more Black men into the profession.

The Black Male Mental Health Initiative

The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts (ULEM), with support from William James College (WJC) and Takeda Pharmaceuticals, has developed the first of its kind Health Equity Initiative focused on Black Male Mental Health that seeks to grow the mental health workforce and offer resources for BIPOC community members who seek support.

The initiative is ULEM’s first initial effort to launch health equity work through a series of programmatic offerings and pilots, public education workshops, and sustained community engagement, and aims to address social determinants of health, raise awareness and engagement, and support sustainable community driven efforts to reduce racial health disparities through collaboration with federal, state, and local partners.
